UTILITY CREW SUPERVISOR

 

The Utility Crew Supervisor Is responsible for supervising the installation, maintenance, and repair of the City’s water distribution system. This is a fast paced position with many moving parts that will require you to have excellent organization and communications skills!

 

This position schedules and supervises a crew of skilled workers installing, maintaining, and repairing water mains, services, fire hydrants, and detector checks. You will also identify and resolve operating difficulties while ensuring materials and supplies are available. Coordination of work will be important, as you will coordinate requests for emergency or unscheduled work, inspect work to ensure conformance with instructions and regulations including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) regulations, as well as city and departmental policies and procedures.

 

There is some administrative work that will need to be completed for supervision over the crews, like managing attendance, production records, performance management, employee relations, and assigning work. Safety is our top priority for all employees, so this position will also ensure the safety of City equipment, private property, and others by following proper safety procedures, watching for overhead utility lines, and checking for traffic and underground utilities; performs routine checks and preventive maintenance on equipment and identify and report equipment malfunctions; clean equipment as needed.

 

The salary range for this position is $39k-$67k. Salary ranges are competitive based on qualifications and experience. In addition to salary, the City offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to meet all of our employee’s needs!

 

As a Utility Crew Supervisor, you will have exposure to different positions within the Waterworks department to enhance your knowledge and skill set. This position requires a high school diploma and 3-5 years of closely related experience with 1-2 year of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position will also require satisfactory results from a pre-employment medical evaluation; pre-employment substance abuse testing and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) permit must be obtained prior to employment and complete the practical portion of the CDL test within 60 days of employment.
