Undergraduate Research Assistant - AI-based Image Recognition and Cell Tracking at the Brain MicroEngineering Lab

Hours: 10-18 hours per week
Compensation: $10 per hour for internship positions. $13 per hour for trained positions (after a 6-month internship and demonstration of successful progress).

Position Summary:
We, the Brain Micro-Engineering Lab, seek enthusiastic and motivated undergraduate research assistants to join our team working on a cutting-edge AI-based image recognition and cell tracking project. The primary focus of this role will be to generate high-quality training datasets by tracing a large number of individual cells using various imaging techniques. This opportunity offers the chance to contribute to groundbreaking research while gaining valuable experience in the field of artificial intelligence and cellular biology.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the research team to trace and annotate individual cells in microscopy images and videos.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of the generated dataset by adhering to established guidelines and protocols.
  • Utilize specialized software tools to optimize image analysis and cell tracking.
  • Attend regular team meetings and provide updates on progress and challenges.
  • As needed, assist with related tasks such as data management, documentation, and literature review.
Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at Utah State University in a relevant field such as biology, computer science, or engineering.
  • A strong interest in artificial intelligence and cellular biology research.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Prior experience with image analysis or cell tracking is a plus, but not required.
