Mechanical Engineer - Thermal R&D
Position Summary
We are seeking thermal control engineers to support a wide range of existing projects and to ultimately lead new and innovative research programs. Our Thermal Control engineers work on a broad spectrum of thermal system technologies for advanced military systems, custom NASA systems and commercial applications. Mainstream capitalizes on advanced cooling technologies, such as microchannel cooling, jet impingement, induced cavitation, synthetic jets, and spray cooling to provide high heat flux cooling solutions for laser weapons, power electronics, and hypersonic vehicle components. We integrate our products into both active (e.g. vapor-compression refrigeration, high-speed pumped loops, Stirling cryocooler) and passive (e.g. oscillating heat pipe, copper-diamond heat spreader) systems. You will be responsible for transitioning technology from basic research to production and will therefore work in all aspects of R&D including design, numerical modeling and simulation, prototyping, test and evaluation, and product release. These positions will include finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, test loop design, instrumentation and controls, laboratory experimentation, and direct customer interfacing.
Position Requirements
- Hands-on laboratory test experience
- BSME, MSME or PhD
- US Citizenship required due to strict ITAR regulations
- GPA not less than 3.3 for all degrees
- Solid understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics
- Experience with data acquisition systems (LabVIEW preferred) including temperature, pressure, flow, and other sensors
- We are looking for problem solvers; people that can innovate solutions to real-world problems
- CFD/FEA modeling (ANSYS/FLUENT) experience is a plus
