Network Administrator - Intermediate (Req ID 4048)

Job Overview

Under supervision, administers design, topology, and implementation of local area AVoIP network. Manages and maintains switches, routers, and other network equipment like encoders and decoders. Analyzes traffic and bandwidth for optimum network performance to ensure organization's objectives are met. Must be familiar with concepts related to multicast traffic. Responsible for maintenance, and usage of the organization's local area network. Manages network performance and maintains network security. Ensures that security procedures are implemented and enforced. Installs all network software. Evaluates, develops and maintains Unified Communications (UC) systems. Troubleshoots network problems. Implements network policies, procedures, and standards and ensures their conformance with information systems and organization objectives. Trains users on network operation.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Job Functions:
Oversees installation of network hardware.
Utilizes knowledge and understanding of both networking and telecommunications theory and practice.
Communicates with users, technical teams, and vendors on new technology and system upgrades and to determine software and hardware installation requirements.
Configures Switches and Routers.
Provides network optimization for multicast layer 2 routing and switching.
Work with and provide artifacts for Risk Management.
Works in compliance with Federal Government (NIST/DISA) standards.
Performs switch firmware updates.
Develops and monitors security procedures to safeguard systems from physical harm, viruses, unauthorized users, or damage to data.
Keeps network compliant with applicable Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVA).
Provides technical guidance to the VTC engineers and government Stakeholders.
Develops processes to stand up new switches and segments on the network.
Works in collaboration with the Information System Security Officer.
Presents recommendations related to purchasing and installing hardware, software, and Unified communications equipment.
Other tasking as directed. 

Job Requirements

Mandatory:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Five years or more experience in Networking or highly related vocation.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
Expert level skills in configuring Cisco Switches.
One or more of the following Certificates: CCNA, CCIE, CCNP, CND, JNCIA, Network +, etc.
