Coastal engineer

Mott MacDonald (MM), offers an opportunity to have a career with the premier employer in the coastal, port, and harbor engineering industry. MM is a full-service engineering company focusing on the protection and restoration of coastlines, increasing coastal resiliency, the development of port and harbor infrastructure, and navigation related projects.
 
MM is currently looking for a Junior Coastal/Port Engineer with a minimum of 4 years of experience in coastal engineering and design for our Freehold, NJ office.
 
Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead engineering design projects with a focus on coastal and port projects
  • Develop collection plans for surveying, geotechnical exploration, and environmental data
  • Conduct analysis and numerical modeling of coastal processes such as currents, waves, storm surge, sediment transport, morphology, and wave-current-structure interaction
  • Perform engineering analysis, preliminary, and detailed design of coastal and marine facilities
  • Develop plans, specifications, and construction documents on projects
  • Perform Deputy Project Management duties and communicate with clients
  • Report preparation

Job Requirements:
  • Masters degree in Coastal, Port Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 4 years of coastal engineering design experience
  • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills, including technical writing and presentation skills
  • Familiarity with industry standard analysis software (Matlab, ADCIRC, SWAN, etc.)
  • E.I. License or ability to be licensed in NJ within 1 year of hire
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience with coastal engineering design such as beach nourishments, shoreline protection, shoreline restoration, marsh creation, living shorelines, flood control, bulkheads, rubblemound structures, dredging, dredge material management, and recreational boating facilities
  • Experience with harbor structure design such as jetties, offloading structures, berthing and mooring structures
  • Northeast US coastal engineering experience
  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills
  • Working knowledge of geotechnical engineering in the marine environment
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD
Flexibility to travel regionally
