CAHSS Internship and Service Fund

Have you been offered an exciting internship opportunity that does not include a paid salary or stipend? Whether you have already accepted a position or are in the process of applying, you may be eligible to apply for a financial stipend through this fund. Please only submit your application if you meet the below criteria.

The UMBC Career Center and College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences are proud to announce a CAHSS Student Internship & Service Fund, thanks to the generous support of our alumni and the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

STIPEND AMOUNTS:
  • $2,000 stipend for unpaid internships totaling 120 hours or more this summer
  • $1,000 stipend for unpaid volunteer service totaling 60 hours or more this summer

ELIGIBILITY:
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher 
  • You must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student studying in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences who will return to UMBC in Fall 2023.
  • You must have obtained, OR plan to obtain an unpaid position for Summer 2023.
  • If you have not already obtained an unpaid position for summer, you must secure a position by May 1, 2023.

HOW TO APPLY:
For best consideration, please submit your resume, unofficial transcript, and a personal statement in Handshake by April 1, 2023.

Deadlines: 
Priority Deadline: April 10, 2023
Final Deadline: April 30, 2023

Personal Statement Directions:
Statements should be between 250-500 words.
If you have already secured a position, your statement should include:
  1. How does this unpaid internship or service opportunity support your career and academic goals? 
  2. Why are you an ideal candidate for the Student Internship & Service Fund?
If you have NOT already secured a position, your statement should include:
  1. What kind of internship or service opportunity do you plan to obtain for Summer 2023? Please list at least three organizations where you have applied, or plan to apply.
  2. How do you expect this experience to support your career and academic goals?
  3. Why are you an ideal candidate for the Student Internship & Service Fund?
