Enhancements to GRC Lunar Site Analysis Software - Virtual
This full-time virtual opportunity for multiple interns will be to enhance the GRC Lunar Site Availability Software capabilities. The scope of such improvements include continued development/enhancement of 3D lunar terrain visualization, shadow-derived ray casting, surface-comm ray casting from a height above the lunar surface to determine directly visible nearby lunar terrain, and migration of terrain analysis modules from CPU to GPU processing to expedite runtime.
These analysis and visualization capability upgrades will be highly useful for engineers to better understand lunar terrain, and its impact for communication links with lunar spacecraft or Earth ground stations, communication links with lunar surface crew or rovers, or for solar illumination for power generation. The interns will also augment user-guide documentation to describe the new aspects of the 3D visualization capabilities. Glenn Core Competency: Communications Technology and Development.
