Project Sales Estimator

SUMMARY: The Project Sales Estimator’s estimates projects and performs material take-offs from plans and specifications, and identifies bid scope. The Project Sales Estimator also establishes and maintains customer relationships and in conjunction with this responsibility has pricing authority.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Read structural and architectural drawings for purposes of obtaining a correct scope of work.
Navigate, read, interpret and review drawings related to grating products.
Download drawings and specifications (e.g. from customer FTP sites), “combine” single .pdf drawings to one folder and print drawings and documents, as needed. Review bid documents for purposes of interpreting specifications and identifying project specific requirements.
Build relationships with customers through clear and regular communication, including, as needed, meeting with customers at their facilities.
Seek information concerning the disposition of quotes for purposes of, among other things, gaining feedback on the scope of work and pricing.
Based on a review of specific customer needs, recommend appropriate grating products.
Communicate, clearly and regularly, with appropriate internal contacts (e.g. Sales, Project Management, Detailing, etc.) regarding relevant information, including information concerning customers, the market or competitors.
Prepare and send qualified proposals per bid documents and per scope of work.
Determine quantities and costs on individual projects. Identify needed buyout items and request the same from source vendors.
Determine scrap factor on specialty products.
Review drawings and specifications for purposes of developing accurate material takeoffs (e.g. to scope, per applicable standards and requirements, per bid documents, with all appropriate inclusions and exclusions, etc.).
Qualify all conflicts between drawings and specifications.
Review revisions of drawings and specifications to ensure takeoffs are appropriately revised. Perform all duties according to established Company operating, safety, environmental, engineering and quality policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND PROFICIENCIES:

High school diploma or equivalent required. A bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field preferred. A minimum of 1-5 years’ experience in drafting and estimating. Experience with structural steel preferred and structural steel drafting experience is beneficial. Ability to estimate FRP structural products preferred. Proficient skills in Microsoft Office products (including Excel, Outlook and Word), AutoCAD, and ERP Systems. Excellent customer service and communication skills required.
