Job Summary:
Assists departments and users in identifying, developing and implementing concepts and plans to optimize the utilization of their spaces. Concentrates efforts on accommodating the functional and spacing needs of existing and/or additional staff and equipment. Focuses on space planning solutions that generate cost savings, modernize and enhance the space to create more efficient and effective environments for our students, faculty and staff. This position also focuses on recycling and re-purposing furniture and equipment as a way of contributing to the university's commitment to environmentally sustainable, economically feasible, and socially just practices.
  • Assists departments in maximizing the use of their space by inspecting their current space, discussing and outlining their needs and designing and drafting space plans, suggesting furniture solutions and/or repurposing their existing furniture and equipment.
  • Assists with the verification of the space inventory in terms of ownership, use, and general condition.
  • Trains and Supervises the Class Lab and Classroom Service Specialist Positions.
  • Serves as back-up for the Director of the department with authority in her absence for all space, project or departmental related issues.
  • Trains and supervises temporary staff on collection, input and running of space related data in the centralized space information system.
  • Maintains contact with university departments in the gathering of space inventory information, including periods of emergency preparedness and recovery.
  • Coordinates with users and vendors quotations, purchase orders, delivery and installation of furniture and equipment.
  • Serves a alternate for the Director of the department on the Emergency Management Committee.
  • Assists university departments and personnel in assimilating used furniture and/or equipment by reupholstering or repurposing furniture and equipment to avoid added expenses and enhance university recycling practices.
  • Assists in budget monitoring, planning and forecasting. Makes budget recommendations for yearly expenditures and/or budget reductions.
  • Coordinates with the Classroom Services and Class Lab Services Managers to ensure timely completion of maintenance and improvement projects.
  • Supervises the implementation of preventive maintenance actions for general purpose classrooms.
  • Supervises and monitors the implementation and maintenance of university classroom standards in general purpose classrooms.
  • Assists with Documentation for Educational Plant Surveys.
  • Represents FIU at Department of Education/Board of Governors in Educational Plant Surveys for other universities.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in an appropriate specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate specialization and two years of experience
 
Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Auto Cad.
  • Knowledge of Revit.
  • Degree in Interior Design or Architecture, Construction Management.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
 
Advertised Salary:
$60,000 - $65,000
Work Schedule:
  • Begin time: 8:30 AM
  • End time: 5:00 PM
