PGA WORKS Fellowship - APGA Tour

PGA REACH, the 501 c 3 of the PGA of America and the Advocates Pro Golf Association (The APGA Tour) are offering an opportunity for individuals from diverse backgrounds to garner experience in all facets of the golf industry with a focus on a professional development tour.

Opportunity: The Advocates Pro Golf Association (APGA Tour) is offering an opportunity to gain
valuable insight into the operations and player development aspects of the professional golf business for
a 12-month term.
Established in 2010, the APGA Tour is a non-profit organization whose mission is to prepare African
Americans and other minority golfers to compete and win at the highest level of professional golf, both
on tour and in the golf industry. In 2022, the APGA Tour owns and operates a total of 18 events and the
APGA Player Development Program presented by World Wide Technology.

JOB TITLE: PGA WORKS APGA Tour Fellowship
MANAGER’S TITLE: Director of Marketing and Sponsorships
JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES – APGA Tour:
The primary focus of this position will be to assist with the organization’s Player Development Program
and the APGA Foundation’s Youth events. Secondarily the Fellow will work with the Manager of the Social
Media on the organization’s growing social media program and assist the Director of Tournament
Operations at key APGA events.

Player Development—40%
There are 12 players in the APGA’s Player Development Program. The APGA invests $30,000 per player
by providing equipment, coaching, mental performance, fitness evaluation, launch monitor and entry
fees and expenses to Korn Ferry and PGA TOUR Monday Qualifying. The Fellow will assist the Head of
the Player Development Program by:
o Evaluating and tracking player performance and progress
o Tracking program expenses
o Working with the Social Media team to highlight player accomplishments
o Developing quarterly surveys to test players' attitudes regarding the program and their
progress
o Knowledge of the Full Swing Launch Monitor

APGA Foundation—25%
The mission of the APGA Foundation is to help young people make better choices in regard to their
health, wellness, and careers. To accomplish this the Foundation hosts 6-8 Youth Symposiums a year
where young people go through a golf clinic, a health and wellness session, and meet with executives
from a variety of careers. The Fellow will assist the Foundation’s Executive Director by:

o Researching youth groups to attend the Symposium
o Work with the golf course to plan all details of the Symposium
o Manage the Foundation’s essay contest
o Assist with Foundation’s social media outreach

Tournament Operations—20%
The APGA sponsors 18 professional golf tournaments a year. The Fellow will assist the Director of
Tournament Operations by:

o Attend key tournaments
o Help with tournament scoring
o Make sure banners and all tournament signage is in place
o Assist the tournament PR consultant in getting information to the media

Social Media—15%

o Develop social media posts on Player Development and Foundation events
o Do interviews with players for social media posts

APGA Marketing and Social Media—15%
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
● Undergraduate Degree
● Knowledge of the golf industry preferred
● Shows an interest in developing a career in golf
● Valid Driver’s License Required
● Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills are required

● Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Word & Excel
● Skills in social media marketing and communications
● Well organized, punctual, and energetic
● Ability to work in a team environment and travel extensively
● Ability to work overtime including weekends
● Ability to be flexible
● Ability to influence with an open and direct communication style and willingness to engage in
constructive debate
● Ability to motivate others
● Ability to apply judgment and decision-making skills
● Ability to write reports and standard business correspondence
● Ability to present self in a professional manner and appearance
● Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive data
● Interest in a career in golf or sports administration preferred
● Significant travel

POSITION/PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
● While performing the duties of this job, the employee is: frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use
hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with
hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This position must be able to
travel for extended periods of time in various modes of transportation.
● The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
● Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and
the ability to adjust focus.
● While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather
conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
● The employee must be able to drive the company vehicle/van and/or drive to and from various
locations throughout the Section.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
● Salary: $50,000 per year and $5,000 for benefits
● Travel will be reimbursed for tournaments and events
● APGA logo wear will be provided.
