Intern I (College Undergraduate) Engineering-Transportation (Non-Civil Service)

*Note: This position is intended to be staffed during the Spring/Summer 2023 Internship timeframe.

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications. 


The engineering intern under Transportation Department will be responsible for professional work in the planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance of the City's transportation infrastructure. Assignments are designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering and planning tasks. 
Essential Functions

Interns can anticipate participating in the following initiatives:

  • Traffic Management Center
  • Thoroughfare Plan
  • Complete Streets
  • Vision Zero
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Junior or Senior in an ABET Accredited University program pursing a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or closely related engineering field. (Required)
AND

Experience
  • MicroStation or AutoCAD experience. (Preferred) 
Supplemental Information
By the end of the internship, the intern will learn how to:
  • Apply engineering and planning principles
  • Traffic operations and transportation planning including traffic control devices
  • Data collection analysis evaluation, report writing, drafting, and mapping
  • Use of MicroStation, AutoCAD and ArcGIS in creating plans and maps for planning, studies, and engineering reports.
