Position Summary
Performs duties essential to the enforcement of SRHS regulations. Enforcement of the criminal laws of the state of South Carolina including protecting SRHS property and personnel, regulating vehicular parking, maintaining fire and safety surveillance, conducting safety searches, and promoting optimal public relations with visitors and patients. Other assigned duties as necessary. 
 
Minimum Requirements
Education           
  • High School Graduate or GED
Experience        
  • 2 years full time Law Enforcement experience
  • Graduate of a Certified Basic Police Academy
License/Registration/Certifications       
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Must meet qualifications to become SLED certified in carrying a weapon.
  • Required to be interviewed and receive the approval from the Peer and Management boards.

  • Must be able to Effectively enforce SRHS regulations.
  • Must be able to effectively enforce the criminal laws for the state of South Carolina.       
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and by radio, telephone and in person to coworkers, employees, visitors and patients.                                        
  • Must be able to work as a team member with peers, other departments, staff and administration.    
  • Must be able to adapt to new innovations, policies, and procedures, as they are introduced and capable of instructing others in new methods and procedures.
  • Manual dexterity, good eye/hand coordination, and adequate vision/hearing needed in daily work.
  • Must be able to withstand many hours of standing, walking, stooping, bending, and sitting.
  • Must be able to run up and down stairs, walk long distances, and search for missing persons or evidence to apprehend subjects.
  • Must be able to respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
  • Must be able to intervene in conflict situations – fights, quarrels, and domestic matters and use calming techniques to settle subjects.
  • Must be able to perform defensive and/or other hand-to-hand combat tactics to control hostile subjects, to include wrestling, holding, handcuffing unwilling subjects.
  • Must be able to physically restrain individuals who are combative, pushing, shoving, under the influence of behavior-altering drugs, and other violent disorders until help arrives.
  • Must be able to lift or move patients and equipment used.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Pepper Spray, ASP Baton, Taser, Firearms and Handcuffs.
  • Must have strong communications skills.
