Nutrition & Food Security Summer VISTA
Indy Hunger Network (IHN) is a coalition of hunger relief agencies working to ensure that anyone who is hungry can get the food they need. CICOA In-Home Aging & Solutions is one of the twelve organizations that partners with IHN to achieve this mission. CICOA's mission is to empower older adults, those of any age with a disability and their caregivers by providing the innovative answers, services, and support they need to achieve the greatest independence and quality of life. In this role you will collaborate closely with CICOA’s Nutrition Team to help fight food insecurity and enhance the lives of older adults. This is a great opportunity to innovate new ideas for outreach activities and volunteer recruitment at distribution locations to build program capacity. Show off your excellent organizational skills working with older adults and providing shelf stable food options, fresh vegetable checks and education to those in poverty and underserved areas of Indianapolis through innovative outreach and excellent customer experience.
IHN has partnered with AmeriCorps for 10 years and has hosted over 40 AmeriCorps VISTAs (Volunteers in Service to America) during that time. We regard our VISTA members as a cohort moving through a transformational year-long experience that helps build capacity within the Indianapolis hunger relief system and works to alleviate poverty.
CICOA is located in beautiful office space on the north side of Indianapolis, with easy access to shopping, downtown, and the popular village of Broad Ripple. CICOA perks include free coffee/tea, appreciation events, committee involvement, flexibility, diversity and a work culture that allows individuals to learn and grow. VISTA members serving with CICOA also will receive a one-time settling-in allowance and housing allowance.
Member Duties
The Nutrition and Food Security VISTA will:
- Improve program participation through outreach
- Innovate potential process improvements, volunteer recruitment and outreach for building capacity
- Improve participation and increase social engagement through home deliveries and community events
- Provide an excellent experience to clients by assisting with two new fresh produce options

To help you maximize this experience, we employ a full-time staff member to provide mentoring and professional development to the VISTA. The position also offers:
- Camaraderie with several other AmeriCorps VISTAs serving under the Indy Hunger Network umbrella
- Team engagement activities, including bi-weekly meetings to discuss projects, socialize, and hear from guest presenters
- Mentoring, one-on-one coaching, and professional development trainings
- Assistance preparing for life after VISTA (resume review, interview prep, etc.)
- Opportunities to work with leaders in the hunger relief space
- Opportunities to work independently and lead on projects
