Individual Placement AmeriCorps Member

The AmeriCorps Individual Placement positions (ages 18-35) are based at various locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Under the direct guidance of a project supervisor, the Specialist will assist with a variety of projects to expand the capacity and reach of the partner agency. See specific position descriptions for greater detail before applying. Up to 15-20% of the service term is dedicated to technical and personal skills training.

This is a full-time commitment for the AmeriCorps service term. The member will receive a monthly stipend and an education award upon successful completion of the term that may be used for education expenses or to repay qualified student loans. Members are directly supervised by Conservation Corps program staff and site supervisor. Members serve in a single placement setting with a partnering nonprofit/government organization. Members complete service projects with direction provided by partnering agencies and representatives of those agencies.
 
Term dates and schedule:
  • Term: April – December, 2023 and May – November, 2023
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm typical. Some evenings or weekends may be required.  
  • Location: Saint Paul, MN (Housing is not provided by the Corps. Member must secure their own housing near service location.)
  • Cass Lake, MN (Housing is provided)
Positions: 
Volunteer Outreach Specialist (St. Paul, MN )
  • Dates: April 1 – December 15The AmeriCorps Volunteer Outreach Specialist position is based at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Saint Paul, Minn. The purpose of the Volunteer Outreach Specialist is to assist with development and improvement of the DNR’s Scientific and Natural Areas (SNA) Program Outreach Initiatives relating to volunteers and site stewards, as well as stewardship events and iNaturalist projects/events. This may include volunteer enrollment, retention, and recognition. It may also include coordinating to create innovative ideas for volunteer engagement. Evaluation and analysis of volunteer initiatives will be required.
Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Specialist (St. Paul, MN)
  • Dates: May 16 – November 15The AmeriCorps Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Specialist position is placed at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Saint Paul, Minn. This position serves to build the capacity of important public service work at the DNR in the Division of Ecological and Water Resources Aquatic Invasive Species program. Under the guidance of MN DNR and U of M project advisors, this position will primarily serve to assist in the prevention of the spread and promotion of management of invasive species. Activities include data collection, mapping and AIS field work related to invasive species monitoring, verification, and early detection surveys. This position may also provide corps members with opportunities in outdoor recreation and outreach.
 Archaeology and Heritage Program Specialist (Cass Lake, MN)
  • Dates: May 16 – November 15The AmeriCorps Archaeology and Heritage Program Specialist is placed with the Chippewa National Forest serves alongside U.S. Forest Service, Chippewa National Forest cultural resource professionals in Cass Lake, MN. The position is focused to help develop the Specialist’s professional skill sets while providing expertise and valuable contributions to the host site. The Specialist will learn hands-on skills in the work of managing cultural resources and public outreach. The Specialist will assist with the Heritage Program (including archaeology and historic preservation).  Housing is provided.

  • Qualifications:Positive attitude and strong commitment to service and community work
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work with children and youth in outdoor settings
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats
  • Creative thinking and problem solving
  • College coursework and/or degree in a relevant field

Service Term: 900 - 1200 hour AmeriCorps positions

  • Benefits:Living Allowance: $2,300/month
  • Education Award: $3,447.50 - $4,826.50, if eligible and upon successful completion of program

  • Requirements:18-35 years old.
  • Must be a US Citizen, US National or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the US.
  • Must pass the National Sex Offender Public Registry and criminal history check. “Pass” is defined as no positive hits on the NSOPR and no history of violent offenses on the criminal history check.
  • Full term of service must be completed in order to receive the education award.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe driving record (no major moving violations or DUI’s in the past five years).
