Human-Centered AI Research Assistant

We’re seeking a graduate-level intern with an interest in human-centered AI research! As an SEI intern, you will work on real projects and collaborate with our technical staff.

The intern will be a research assistant (RA) - an enrolled graduate student performing research functions. The RA will work with SEI staff members with backgrounds in human-computer interaction, user experience (UX), design research, and similar expertise, working to develop tools, systems, and processes to enable the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in real-world contexts. The RA will be involved in the research and prototyping efforts to develop practices for the emergent discipline of AI engineering – specifically, for making human-centered and responsible AI systems. The RA may participate in a variety of collaborative efforts, such as planning and conducting UX research, experiments, and evaluations; gathering and analyzing data; creating clickable (no/low code) prototypes; and documenting findings and recommendations. The RA must be organized, have strong communication skills, and be able to interact collaboratively and diplomatically with colleagues.

Requirements:
 
  • Current enrollment in a relevant graduate degree granting program with availability to work an internship schedule during the summer
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
  • Candidates will be subject to a background check
  • Ability to work part of the time onsite at our offices in Pittsburgh
