Life Scientist/Environmental Engineer/Physical Scientist - R8

Summary

This position is in Region 8, Water Division, Clean Water Branch, Watershed Section. About Region 8: https://www.epa.gov/aboutepa/epa-region-8-mountains-and-plains.

This is an office-centered position--you must physically report to one of the duty stations stated in this announcement on a regular basis (location TBD after candidate selected). Partial work-from-home flexibilities may be authorized.

Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

-Perform work and serve as a point of contact for other programs within EPA, states, tribes, other federal agencies and members of public on a wide variety of both scientific and technical matters related to implementation of several Clean Water sections.

-Ensure that states and tribes implement effective nonpoint source control programs to protect and restore surface waters of the Region from impacts due to nonpoint sources; ensure that federally-issued permits are evaluated for compliance with state and tribal water quality standards; ensure that wetlands of the Region are maintained and protected.

-Collaborate with Headquarters, Regional, state and tribal counterparts in negotiating workplans; and review, develop and implement technical guidance, tools and policies in support of state water quality programs. 

-Represents the Region on state, tribal, or national workgroups to establish or revise regulations, guidance and/or policy.

-Work related to the initiation, administration, and/or close-out of contracts, grants, cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements, including reviewing contractors' plans and monitoring progress to ensure optimal performance within monetary limits, and the performance of administrative work as necessary to accomplish these duties.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses. NOTE: Career ladder promotions are not automatic, and all eligibility and qualifications requirements must be met in order to progress to the next grade level.
