Communications Officer

JSI/World Education’s Center for HIV and Infectious Diseases supports the organizations’ HIV, tuberculosis, COVID, malaria, and broader infectious disease portfolios by connecting staff across divisions, projects, and geographic areas; sharing the latest developments and scientific findings; providing strategic thought leadership; supporting new business development; and representing the organizations’ portfolios internally and externally.

JSI seeks an energetic communications officer to support the Center for HIV and Infectious Diseases in all aspects of strategic communications. The communications officer will help JSI effectively communicate results and achievements to donors, global audiences, and in-country stakeholders such as ministries of health, civil society, and clients.

The communications officer will work closely with the Center directors and team members, bilateral project teams, project backstopping teams, and corporate communications to raise the visibility of JSI’s international work using an integrated approach that combines print, digital, and visual communications. The communications officer will also support JSI’s new business development efforts as needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure execution of communication activities within the Center workplan.
  • Support the production of Center publications, including the publications workflow to internal and external editors and design staff.
  • Develop content for JSI social media accounts, ensuring frequent posts, consistent messaging, and identifying key influencers for corporate social media manager.
  • Assist in developing content for the Center’s bimonthly online newsletter.
  • Help refresh the Center’s webpage and online presence.
  • Regularly update the Center’s HIV Resources page.
  • Enhance content on relevant expertise pages on jsi.com for HIV, tuberculosis, COVID, malaria, and other technical areas.
  • Lead and monitor dissemination efforts once implemented.
  • Coordinate across JSI’s International Division, Health Services Division and World Education International.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Center Co-Directors.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of experience working in the field of international development, including relevant in-country experience
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills
  • Must be a very strong writer and able to synthesize technical material into concise communication pieces and tailor content to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex processes to ensure high-quality products that meet tight deadlines
  • Interest in health, international development, or working for a mission-driven organization a plus
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with diverse staff and across multiple teams in a fast-paced, highly-collaborative work environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills--demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff, clients, and consultants
  • Keen attention to detail, both organizationally and editorially
  • Understanding of and experience in drafting content for various social media channels
