Field Safety Specialist II - Electric Grid Operations

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under direction, develop, implement, and administer safety and occupational health programs and work procedures
  • Possess and apply a broad knowledge of occupational health and safety principles, practices and procedures
  • Interpret and assure compliance with safety regulations and policies
  • Prepare and distribute educational materials and information
  • Compile and submit required OSHA accident reports
  • Plan and conduct site audits and recommend actions for the correction of hazardous situations for compliance with OSHA regulations
  • Conduct job safety analyses to develop safe work procedures
  • Participate in periodic safety meetings

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial safety, industrial hygiene, or equivalent
OR
  • Bachelor’s in an engineering discipline PLUS qualifying safety designation may be used as an equivalency  
  • Example for equivalency Certified Safety Professional through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals
  • Professional safety certification or advanced education is preferred
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Four years or more directly related experience required
  • An advanced/graduate degree in industrial safety, industrial hygiene, or equivalent may be used as an equivalency for up to two years of required experience
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • This position will report regularly in person to Duluth, MN
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills required to establish and maintain productive internal and external working relationships
  • Must be able to work in the field to provide onsite safety support for a variety electric utility crews
  • Electric Utility experience preferred
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude
