IT Systems Administrator

JOB DESCRIPTION
 
 
POSITION:             Systems Administrator
 
LOCATION:           Administration Building
 
SALARY:                Negotiable based on experience, 40 hours per week plus benefits
 
SUPERVISOR (S):  IT Director
 
THIS IS A REGULAR FULL-TIME NON-EXEMPT POSITION
 
JOB SUMMARY: Maintain, repair, install, and migrate: servers, switches, routers, network core components, and data storage structure. Assist with design and implementation of networking and server infrastructure. Manage and maintain server data backup. Support the network structure with an emphasis on maximum availability and ease of use. Coordinate with IT Department Goals and Direction wherein it applies to Systems Development.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
1.     Implement, Maintain, and Secure Tribal network infrastructure including switches, routers, wireless devices, and other networking equipment.
2.     Repair, Replace, and Maintain Tribal servers, data storage devices, data structure, user structure, and data backup functions.
3.     Assist with the design of network, server, data, and IT infrastructure components.
4.     Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
5.     Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
6.     Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
7.     Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted departments.
8.     Design, implement, and maintain tribal websites.
9.     Advise and assist other Tribal Employees on matters concerning servers, network backbone, data storage, and IT best practices.
10. Assist with other Information Technology tasks as required.
11. Other Duties as assigned by Supervisor or contracted entities.
12. The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.
           
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: Tribal Data Archivist. Other Temporary IT Positions as assigned by IT Director.
 
KNOWLEDGE:
1.     Microsoft Server Operating Systems: installation, maintenance, troubleshooting.
2.     Network Operating Systems including Cisco and HP.
3.     Routing and Switching.
4.     Virtual Private Networking.
5.     Remote access protocols and software.
6.     Familiarization with fiber optics, CAT5/6 cabling, and other network transport medium.
7.     Website Design, Programming, and Maintenance.
8.     Advanced Knowledge of personal computing systems and software.
9.     Advanced Knowledge of Information Systems and associated Tasks.
10. Information Systems Organization and Best Practices.
11. Knowledge of and sensitivity for Ojibwe culture and traditions.
SKILLED IN:
1.     Broad Aspects of Microsoft Server design and implementation.
2.     Communication via Electronic Media, Physical Media, and Face to Face Interactions.
3.     Organization of Self and Others.
4.     Troubleshooting of all aspects of network infrastructure.
5.     Troubleshooting of all aspects of server infrastructure.
6.     Building and Improving the delivery of network services.
7.     Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting software applications.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.     Bachelor’s Degree or Higher in Systems Administration, Computer Science, or related field, OR must obtain a Bachelor’s degree within the first 180 days of hire.
2.     Certifications a plus: Net+, A+, MCSE, CCNA, HP Enterprise Certifications.
3.     Must have a valid driver’s license. Must maintain driver’s eligibility as a condition of employment. Must be eligible to be put on the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
 
PERSONAL CONTACTS: May include: Tribal Council Members and appointees; Tribal employees; representatives of other Tribes and Governments. Contractors and hosting providers for Tribal IT Resources.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Primarily office position that may require bending, lifting and reaching. May need to lift up to 75 pounds.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Tribal Administration Building and may need to occasionally do tasks in any of the Tribal buildings . All Tribal buildings are non-smoking.
 
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to travel and attend meetings and trainings; overnight and out of town, both locally & nationally.        
                       
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Due to the flexibility of Information Systems work, regular hours may be flexible based on job duties. This position will regularly be required to work after normal hours and on weekends.
