YOUTH COMMUNITY PROGRAMS COMMUNICATIONS INTERN (UNPAID)

This internship will be packed full of opportunity to learn, develop, and grow your skills! You will be participating specifically in the Juvenile Services department and be working right alongside our Juvenile Services team to assist them with daily functions and ongoing projects for the City!
 
Day-to-day, you will be working closely with the Superintendent of Secure Detention to learn the full purpose of the program and utilize all of the tools available to assist youth in the local community. You’ll use your knowledge to engage youth in afterschool events designed to provide them with tools and information in a teen-summit forum. There will be opportunities to coordinate with community partners to facilitate groups on topics of interest to youth!
 
Some administrative work will be required to include learning documentation processes, polices, terminology and reviewing common program paperwork. In addition to your day-to-day responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to assist in the creation and implementation of editorial content, use various social media management platforms, and other computer applications in support of communication efforts.
 
This internship will give you exposure to the Juvenile Services department and you will be able to learn as much as you are willing to invest in your internship.
 
The schedule for this internship has flexibility, as we realize your classes come first! This internship will run from February until December. There could also be potential for a part-time or a full-time job opportunity at the end of the program if the City has a vacancy at that time.
 
The Juvenile Services Department would like an intern to accomplish the following objectives over the course of your internship: · Develop and maintain community partnerships that support positive behavior programming of youth · Gain knowledge of advertising and publicity techniques · Gain knowledge of methods of public relations, marketing, and communications using a variety of sources including social media.
 
Students currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program in Public Relations, Communications, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Marketing or a related degree will see the most value from this internship!
 
This internship will require basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Communication skills will be essential both orally and in writing, and you must be dependable and professional. The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a degree program in an accredited college or university.
