Research Technician
A laboratory at Mass Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School is seeking a highly-motivated research technician to join our research group. We seek to better understand the mechanisms behind the development of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). We have been using a combination of molecular, cellular, and biochemistry techniques in transgenic mouse models to uncover pathways that may serve as new therapeutic avenues for this disease. Our lab is located in a stimulating environment for vision research, with opportunities to interact with clinician-scientists and basic scientists working on many aspects of retina and eye research.
Under supervision of higher-level staff members, the technologist will carry out a broad range of research activities with some latitude to determine techniques and establish protocol.
Individual responsibilities include:
- maintaining a mouse colony,
- maintaining and managing laboratory orders and equipment,
- designing and cloning new constructs for use in AAV-mediated gene modulation and shRNA gene knockout experiments,
- quantification of protein expression (western blot and ELISAs),
- immunohistochemical techniques,
- electron and confocal microscopy
- maintaining a laboratory notebook,
- preparation of reagents and chemicals,
- analyzing and interpreting data.
The ideal candidate will also have some experience in the methodologies we use regularly including molecular biology (including designing and cloning new constructs for use in AAV-mediated gene modulation and shRNA gene knockout experiments), quantification of protein expression (western blot and ELISAs), immunohistochemical techniques, and electron and confocal microscopy.
