College Intern, Traffic
RK&K is accepting applications for College Interns in our Traffic Department.
Our interns will receive on-the-job training, mentorship, and insight into various aspects of the consulting engineering industry from analysis and design to field work and client management. Individuals will be exposed to various challenges, projects and technology related to their specific discipline.
Intern opportunities may be located across all of our 32 offices.
As a Paid Intern in our Traffic Engineering Division you may:
- Assist with traffic data collection, including turning movement counts and delay studies
- Observe and summarize behavior of motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists at intersections with traffic signals and pedestrian signals
- Assist with the creation of CADD diagrams to show existing and proposed signs and markings
- Utilize microsimulation software (HCS, Synchro, and VISSIM) to analyze traffic operations
- Review and summarize crash data for safety studies
- Write technical memoranda and reports
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or related major
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel)
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Participation in professional societies or extracurricular activities
- Applicable prior internship experience
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation and/or GIS
- Academic exposure to the Highway Capacity Manual and Synchro software
