Quality Mechanical Engineer

A Day in the Life

The Quality Mechanical Engineer develops, modifies, applies, and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols to assess product and process quality reliability. Duties may require specialization in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control, and research and development as they apply to product or process quality.

What are the requirements for this position?

  • 0-2 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical/engineering field of study from an accredited university
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Solid Works or other CAD/CAM software
  • Ability to read and understand component and sub-assembly drawings, interpretations of geometric dimensioning and tolerance notations
  • Proficient in performing all test methods defined by quality engineering test plans in support of Engineering Validation Testing (EVT), Design Validation Testing (DVT), and Process Validation Testing (PVT) activities

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place throughout the supply chain for their assigned product lines
  • Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the quality and reliability of products, processes, and equipment
  • Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms, and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications
  • Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction, ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable quality standards, and that documentation is compliant with requirements
  • Supervises subordinate staff
  • Designs and fabricates lab test fixtures, test equipment, and tooling using CAD systems
  • Schedules and conducts testing of product performance, quality, and reliability
  • Communicates test results, failure analysis results, and product information and performance expectation to suppliers
  • Collaborates with suppliers and international team members to drive continuous improvement while ensuring product meets quality standards and product expectations.
  • Drives product and process improvement using Six Sigma quality tools, statistical techniques and corrective and preventive action principles within the Orbit quality management system and the supply chain
  • Assists other Engineering groups in Design reviews (DFMEA), part drawing reviews, and failure analysis
  • Process Audits of in-house production processes.
  • Lead process validation activities.
  • Supports all QA/QC inspection and manufacturing groups. Functions including inspector training, inspection process development and the timely completion of QA/QC tasks to support company fill rate objectives
  • Participates in and drives a variety of cross functional MRB, NCR, SCAR, Design reviews, FMEA, Manufacturing Control Plans, part drawing reviews, and root cause analysis meetings and activities.
