Advanced Electrical Engineering/Physics Internship (PhD, Summer 2023)
About our group:
The Advanced Data Storage and Memory Devices Group within the Seagate Research Group (SRG) is responsible for conducting research on advanced data storage and memory technologies through experimentation and physics-based simulation. The work performed by this team directly informs the Company's ten-year storage product roadmap.
About the role - you will:
● Conduct research on emerging memory technologies and/or advanced energy assisted magnetic recording systems.
● Perform detailed emerging memory device assessments through novel electrical testing to qualify and compare different technology candidates, and/or use a spinstand to provide expert lab-level characterization of advanced recording head designs.
● Through measurements, provide insight into performance limiters, reliability failure modes, and underlying electrical, magnetic, optical, and thermomechanical mechanisms.
● Write software in Python to develop novel test and analysis methods.
● Work closely with modeling groups to elucidate recording physics challenges.
● Work closely with other test engineers and data analysts in order to use models to explain experimentally observed phenomena.
● Develop machine learning models based on modeling and experimental data to predict device performance and reliability.
About you:
● A Ph.D. candidate in an engineering or scientific discipline.
Skills:
● Experience with lab electronics (oscilloscope, SMUs, AWG, spectrum analyzer, VNA, etc.)
● Experience with programming languages (Python, Cuda, C++, Fortran, etc.)
● Strong statistics skills
● Non-volatile memory/semiconductor test knowledge
● Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to adapt to a changing environment and learn new technology
● Flexibility to operate under supervision and independently
● Excellent team player
● Excellent written and oral communication skills
● Experience with Linux based computing hardware a plus.
