Process Engineer Intern / Co-op


Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Engineer Intern / Co-op position ensures that equipment used in the day-to-day manufacturing of microorganisms and blending of microbial feed and bioaugmentation products is performing in optimal condition and actively participates in the implementation of new equipment and processes.
 
Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties:
In this position, you will work closely with the Engineering and Fermentation teams.
Essential duties/responsibilities include, but not limited to:
·      Hands-on experience with plant equipment and laboratory (including operations, formulation, and analysis)
·      Manage technical projects related to equipment upgrades, lean manufacturing, and process improvements
·      Work closely with multiple departments to identify and implement process innovations equipment reliability and overall process performance.
·      Coordination with Equipment Suppliers to obtain quotations
·      Support the proper operation of plant equipment including: Bioreactors (fermentation vessels), Centrifuges, Refrigeration Equipment, Freeze Dryers, Spray Dryers, Blenders
 
Quality and Food Safety:
·      Work to assure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
·      Responsible for compliance with maintaining facility cleanliness, post maintenance cleaning, and preventive maintenance.
·      Responsible for accurate documentation on all records.

Typical Work Environment:
  • Regularly required to sit or stand and move about the facility
  • Exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes, and odors
  • Production environment is not temperature controlled. Working around bacteria, dust, and chemicals.

 
Minimum Job Qualification Requirements:
Education/Training:
·      Working to obtain a degree in Engineering or related field. (Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred.)
·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills
·      Ability to work in a team atmosphere 
·      Working knowledge of MS Office products required
·      Must be able to maintain confidentiality

Relevant Job Experience:
·      Experience with Chemical process, biotech, fermentation, or pharmaceutical engineering environments.
 
Non-Technical Skills and Abilities:
·      High level of independence and initiative is required.
·      Demonstrates proficiency in basic math skills
·      Demonstrated ability to complete projects within specified timelines
·      Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
·      Outstanding organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
·      Self-motivated. Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
·      Excellent communication skills (oral & written)
·      Ability to work well with others
·      Demonstrates proficient computer skills, especially with MS Office and database applications
Physical Requirements:
·      Ability to lift 50 or more pounds periodically
·      Ability to work around chemicals including enzymes

·      Follow all company safety procedures and safety regulations
·      Wear proper safety/protective equipment, as required
