This position is part of the St Stephen's Indian School, Bureau of Indian Education. As a School Social Worker you will be responsible for serving as a School Social Worker in a BIE school on or near the Reservation. The Social Worker is responsible for providing counseling services to students.

As a School Social Worker CY-0185-4, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:
- Serving as a school Social Worker, the incumbent works within the general function supplementing and complementing the role of the Administration, Guidance, Academic and/or Vocational Staff.
- Manages, coordinates, and directs the school school work program independently
- Maintains a school-wide prevention and education program
- Provides mandatory training for the school staff as a subject matter expert
- Coordinates with local medical treatment facilities and local agencies to ensure the availability of immediate care, intervention, and support
- Assesses the special needs of students and families
- Ensures all reported cases of child and spouse abuse are coordinated according to regulations
- Collects, maintains, and analyzes data for planning and reporting purposes in accordance with governing program guidance
- Prepares reports and surveys to meet requirements outlined in the regulation and as requested by leadership

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation for Public Trust position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a background clearance.
- Must obtain and maintain valid state driver's license.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill state credentialing requirements for Social Work. Emergency and provisional certificates may be accepted under the condition they are issued by a State certification authority.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements contained in the approved job category for P.L. 95-561 described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Education and Experience Requirements for the position:
- Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in social work or appropriate State certification, whichever is higher.

Related Experience Requirement for the position:
- Applicants are required to have at least one (1) year of experience in the area of social work. Experience may include:
- Creating educational resources for the public and/or staff regarding topics such as: parenting, stress and conflict management, couples communication/relationship enhancement, child safety, developing personal responsibility, building self-esteem, domestic violence and/or child abuse and neglect;
- Developing family and student classes covering topics such as: parenting, stress and conflict management, couples communication/relationship enhancement, child safety, developing personal responsibility, building self-esteem, domestic violence and/or child abuse and neglect;
- Teaching family and students classes to staff covering topics such as: parenting, stress and conflict management, couples communication/relationship enhancement, child safety, developing personal responsibility, building self-esteem, domestic violence and/or child abuse and neglect.
