Electrical Engineer

Position Summary
Minnkota Power is seeking qualified applicants for an Electrical Engineer responsible for the upkeep of NERC compliance records, maintenance of short circuit and arc flash databases, and design of protection and control systems.

Essential Responsibilities
1. Keep NERC records as it pertains to FAC-008-3 (Facility Ratings) and FERC Order 881 (Ambient Adjusted Line Ratings)
  1. Develop Facility Ratings for MPCs Transmission System
  2. Maintain Facility Ratings within Sigma Flow
  3. Continue facility research in accordance to FAC-008
2. Become the secondary Subject Matter Expert on NERC compliance standards PRC-002 (Disturbance Monitoring), PRC-023(Transmission Relay Loadability), PRC-024 (Generator Frequency and Voltage Protection), PRC-025 (Generator Relay Loadbility), and PRC-027 (Coordination of Protection Systems)
  1. Develop and maintain procedures for compliance of NERC Compliance Standards
  2. Gather and submit data for self-certifications and audits.
3. Maintain short circuit and arc-flash database
  1. Maintain short-circuit model for relay settings and arc-flash studies
  2. Coordinate short-circuit model changes with adjacent utilities and member cooperatives
  3. Communicate changes to safety and operations personnel
4. Design protection and control systems, issue relay settings
  1. Develop design drawings and protection settings
  2. Determine what equipment is needed
  3. Evaluate price quotations and place equipment orders
5. Perform studies and analysis for power delivery planning
  1. Conduct power system studies related to new loads, generation, etc.
  2. Analyze power system performance and reliability
  3. Provide engineering design and technical support for the demand response system (ripple injectors and associated monitoring equipment)

The pay range for this position begins at $68,500 per year. Appropriate compensation will be determined based on a candidate's skills, education, and any previous relevant experience. 

Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) - required
  • EIT (Engineer-In-Training) certification - required
Experience
  • No previous experience in an engineering role necessary
