The Environmental, Health, and Safety Intern will support Biogen’s Gene Therapy Manufacturing Facility in Research Triangle Park, NC to help support the establishment of the Site’s Operational EHS program, including compliance (Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environment) programs, document development, training, and sustainability initiatives. Biogen’s Gene Therapy Manufacturing Facility is currently in construction and this role will be part of the ground floor start-up team with a unique opportunity to see both start-up operations and construction based EHS programs.
Position Description
As the EHS intern, you will work alongside the site EHS Head to develop and implement environmental, health, and safety compliance and conformance programs for the Gene Therapy site through:
- Supporting construction site project walkthroughs and new equipment walk downs to ensure health and safety elements have been incorporated
- Working alongside project SMEs to develop equipment specific health and safety documents to ensure compliance with local regulations
- Engaging and participate in job safety analyses/risk assessments across the site
- Coordinating with Global EHS leaders to implement the site’s safety data sheet management program
- Supporting site environmental and sustainability initiatives
- Responding to various incidents or other activities across the project site
Example projects may include:
- Equipment Specific Lockout/Tagout Procedure development
- Gene Therapy Chemical Management Program
- Gene Therapy Waste and Recycling Program
Qualifications:
- Interest in learning about environmental, health and safety for construction and manufacturing operations
- Self-starter, good organizational skills, and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal communication and the ability to work cross-functionally across teams and skill levels
To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
- Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
Education
Working towards a Bachelor's or Masters in related engineering, science, life sciences, public health, environmental, safety or industrial hygiene
