Job Title: Faculty in Theater (Bard High School Early College Manhattan)

Bard High School Early College Manhattan (BHSEC) invites applications for a full-time Theater faculty position for the spring 2023 semester.  We seek a teacher-artist who is passionate about theater, creative in engaging students, and dedicated to working with adolescents. The successful applicant will be able to teach high school theater courses and direct a theater production every semester.  The initial appointment is for the spring semester with the possibility of renewal for the 2023-2024 academic year.
 
This full-time position provides the opportunity to work with a dedicated faculty of scholars, scientists and artists, most of whom hold terminal degrees in their fields.  In their four years here, BHSEC students earn an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College in addition to a New York State high school diploma.  The academic program emphasizes small class size, seminar-style discussion and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment.  More information about BHSEC is available here.
  
Location: Bard High School Early College in New York City, NY
Compensation: $60-$100K/annum based on professional experience and highest degree earned
Start Date: January 30, 2023.
Responsibilities
  • Teach theater courses for 9th and 10th grade students
  • Teach a theater production course for college students culminating in the performance of a full-length play
  • Coach students in preparation for college and/or extracurricular auditions
  • Maintain the school's inventory of costumes, props, and set pieces
  • Contribute to the life of the community, including advising students and serving on committees
 
Qualifications:
  • Established record of professional activity and accomplishment in theater
  • PhD or relevant terminal degree in performing arts
  • College level and/or high school teaching and directing experience
  • Interest in working with high school age students who are completing a college-level course of study is desired
  • Strong commitment to equity and social justice and desire to open up opportunities for underrepresented students
  • Understanding of cultural difference and ways of uplifting ideas from underrepresented groups to improve the equity balance in education
