The New York State Department of health (DOH) is actively seeking qualified applicants for Engineering positions in locations throughout New York State. These positions may be located in the DOH central office in Albany, or in one of the DOH District offices located in other areas throughout the state. The positions are assigned to work in public and environmental health programs providing regulatory oversight of public drinking water systems, including infrastructure design and funding, water system operations, bottled water certification, public swimming pools, operator certification, regulatory compliance and New York City Watershed oversight. DOH Engineers work with representatives of other State and federal agencies, County health departments, and consulting engineers to ensure compliance with program requirements.

The starting salary for Engineer Trainees is currently $60,069 (salary grade 18). After one year of experience, and upon passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, employees will be automatically advanced to the title of Assistant Engineer (Environmental), which has a current starting salary of $66,566 (salary grade 20).
