R0007145 Summer 2023 Intern – Business Development (Las Vegas Office)

As an ALSAC intern, you will learn from experts who have helped us become one of America’s top healthcare charities while supporting the life-saving mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.     
   
Our summer program offers a 10 week fully immersed paid virtual experience. You will be assigned a day-to-day manager in your industry and our program manager will lead you with networking and professional development events.   
   
ALSAC Summer Intern Innovation Project: ALSAC was named No. 1 on Fast Company’s 2020 list of Best Workplaces for Innovators. Throughout the internship, you will have a chance to connect with innovators from across ALSAC and use Design Thinking to solve for some of our most critical areas of opportunity. Interns will work in teams, be creative, and participate in weekly sessions preparing them to present their solutions to ALSAC’s CEO and members of our Executive Leadership Team.   

  • Start Date: June 5, 2023   
  • End Date: August 12, 2023   
  • Hours: 40 hours a week (Monday-Friday)   
  • Pay Rate: Based on work location   
  • Work Location: Office in Las Vegas, NV

Requirements:  

  • A passion for our mission!   
  • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university and in good standing.   
  • Must be comfortable with Zoom and Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Power Point.   
  • Ability to work in a team environment but also work strong independently.   
  • Ability to be organized and detailed to balance several projects simultaneously.   
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.   
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.   
  • Actively participate in the Summer Intern Innovation Project through cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders and your assigned project.   
   
Specific Internship Description and Preferred Skills: 
The Las Vegas regional field office for ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is looking for a summer 2023 intern to assist in the execution of experiential fundraising efforts. Focus projects will include assisting with the Las Vegas St. Jude Walk/Run and the Las Vegas St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway campaign. The St. Jude Walk/Run is a community peer-to-peer fundraising walk. Staff recruit and coach teams to participate. The St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway is a charitable lottery where tickets are purchased for the chance to win a house. Staff secure the construction of the house at low cost while marketing ticket sales to the public. Minority and diverse candidates, particularly Spanish bilingual candidates, are strongly encouraged to apply.  

  • Majors preferred: Marketing, Public Relations, Business, Communications, Liberal Arts (i.e. Social Studies, Political Science, Cultural Studies, English), Psychology, Sociology 
  
Projects include: 
  • St. Jude Walk/Run: Assist in the recruitment of St. Jude Walk/Run teams and participants. Attend committee meetings. Call past and current participants to keep them up to date on the latest incentives and event announcements. Work closely with the lead staff in charge of the event to ensure that the St. Jude Walk/Run meets or exceeds its revenue goals.  
  • St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway: Assist with St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway event logistics. Work closely with the lead staff in charge of the event to ensure that the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway achieves a sellout of all tickets. Help advertise the Dream Home. Order food and supplies for meetings and events. Manage/recruit sellathon and open house volunteers if necessary.
  • Administrative Tasks: Make phone calls to donors. Engage in online research. Write cards to donors. Assist with event setup and takedown if necessary. Manage inventory of supplies. 

Desired Skills: 
  • Customer Service: Comfortable speaking professionally with people in person and via phone 
  • Oral/Written Communication: Ability to speak publicly and draft professional emails/memos to internal and external audiences 
  • Social Media: Ability to aid in graphic design and/or drafting of copy – familiarity with Canva and social media platforms a plus. 
  • Data analysis: Familiarity with basic statistics and Excel 
  • Project Management  
  • Bilingual Spanish-English skills a plus
