Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub: Sustainability and Communication Intern

The Southwest Ohio Pollution Prevention (P2) Internship Program is a summer internship program that pairs student interns with companies in Hamilton, Butler, and Clermont counties seeking new and innovative approaches to environmental efficiency and conservation. Currently, we are seeking intern applicants for our 2023 host company in Hamilton County, the Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub.

About the Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub: The goal of the Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub (CRRH) is to help mitigate the effects of climate change by increasing recycling, reuse, and landfill diversion rates in the greater Cincinnati area. CCRH reduces the amount of waste going to landfills through their one-stop drop-off location where they accept items that are recyclable and reusable, even those that are not permitted in traditional recycling bins.
 
Intern Responsibilities:
The intern will be given responsibilities that assist his/her/their learning and experience in implementing pollution prevention and sustainability initiatives including:
  • Attend a two-day pollution prevention training, prior to the start of site-specific project work
  • Communicate the mission and pollution prevention efforts of the CRRH via posts, video, and stories on social media
  • Create sustainability dashboards to track and interpret waste diversion benefits
  • Establish and maintain relationships with CRRH partners (governments, non-profits, public interest groups, etc.)
  • Research grant opportunities and present findings to CRRH board members
  • Administer surveys to understand demographics of those served by the CRRH and provide recommendations for how to improve environmental justice issues

Qualifications:
  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student with at least two years of undergraduate education completed
  • Desired majors include: Business and Communication Majors, Environmental Science and Studies Majors, and Environmental Health and Safety Majors
  • Must have valid driver’s license issued
  • Provide own housing and transportation

Desired Skills:
  • Understanding of and passion for sustainability and waste reduction
  • Project management experience
  • Proficient in social media and other written and verbal communications

Compensation and Hours:
  • $15/hr
  • 35 hrs/week
  • Hours may be flexible but typically will be 9 AM-5 PM, with an hour lunch
  • Possibility to work an occasional night or weekend
  • Partial on-site work, partial remote work
