FSQA Intern

Great Lakes Cheese is seeking an intern our Manchester, Tennessee plant. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Job Title:        FSQA Intern
Reports To:   QA Manager
Position
Overview:      We are looking for a Food Safety and Quality Assurance Intern to join our team for a ten week period lasting from June-August. This internship requires 40 hours of on-site work per week.
 
The ideal candidate will be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Food Safety, Food Technology, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a similarly related field.
Our paid internship program provides an opportunity for students to assist the team in driving the continuous improvement efforts to improve key business results in safety, quality, efficiencies, labor costs, packaging costs, SPC consumption, and production yields.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
·      Improve the tool control program for operators by identifying the tools needed in each area, develop a sustainable way to verify the presence of all tools, and write procedures that will be used to train all operators.
·      Develop a film verification program that will include change management and verification upon receipt and during production.
·      Aid in increased swabbing of equipment and the environment over multiple weeks. Collect data, summarize all results, and identify trends.
·      Participate in a variety of business projects and opportunities as part of the GLC Intern Association.
·      Participate in a variety of personal and professional developmental workshops.
·      Participate and execute in a community service project in alignment with GLC’s corporate social responsibility initiative.
·      Up to 20% travel required (if needed).
·      All GLC interns are expected to perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies and procedures.
·      All GLC interns are expected to produce our products in a manner that exceeds the quality and value expectation of our customers and consumers by adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices, Policies and Procedures outlined in our Safe Quality Food Program.
·      Other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
·      Actively enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree in Food Safety, Food Technology, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a similarly related field.
·      Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
·      Must be legally authorized to work for a company in the U.S. without sponsorship both now and in the future.
 
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
·      Problem solving skills.
·      Direct Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
·      Strong communication, presentation, and team skills.
·      Excellent organizational and time management skills.
·      Self-motivated with a high level of initiative, able to work well independently.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
·      Work is performed 75% on the production floor, and 25% administrative.
·      Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
