HR Employee Relations Intern (FAS HR Support Services - Employee Relations)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
  
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program empowers students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage and housing assistance.  Undergraduate students only are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 30, 2023 to August 4, 2023. The application is due by February 12, 2023 at 11:59pm. 
  
Although internships range in subject matter and skill set, each position is designed to prepare all students for life after graduation. An additional component to the internship experience will be a ten-week workshop series to develop students’ career readiness. The weekly workshop will require in-person attendance on campus.

The Office 
FAS HR Support Services (HRSS) is the departmental first point of contact for staff in the FAS portfolio that have human resources needs and questions. Specifically, the Employee Relations team provides support to employees and supervisors with performance management processes, employee rights and resources, referrals to other university offices, worker’s compensation insurance (WCI), and general risk management. 
 
The Position 
• Assist with the planning, development, analysis, and daily operations of employee feedback initiatives. This includes our Employee Exit Interview process.
• Lead an initiative to improve our internal processes in areas of performance management, WCI, documentation, and more.
• Manage and update our ServiceNow knowledgebase to document and streamline our internal processes. 
• Shadow and assist with employee and management consultations regarding workplace issues, and learn strategies for appropriately handling sensitive information.
• Participate in weekly staff meetings to discuss strategies for managing complex and/or risky workplace situations.
• Complete assigned administrative tasks, such as filing.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence.
• Ability to responsibly handle confidential personal information.
• Ability to critically assess sensitive situations and remain objective.
• Ability to understand complex processes and policies, and follow directions.
• Demonstrated experience with datasets and a willingness to learn associated software programs (e.g. Qualtrics, ServiceNow).
• Enjoys organization, attention to detail, and process improvement.
• Enjoys working with diverse populations to deliver inclusive, culturally competent services and initiatives.
• (Preferred) Psychology, Social Work, Public Affairs, or any other related fields.
