Fitness and Wellness Intern (Recreational Sports)

The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program 
  
The Division of Student Affairs Internship Program empowers students to spend a summer handling a special project for the university designed to prepare them for life after graduation. Interns will work 19 hours per week for 10-weeks. These part-time internship positions offer a competitive compensation package that includes an hourly wage and housing assistance.  Undergraduate students only are eligible to apply. The internship runs from May 30, 2023 to August 4, 2023. The application is due by February 12, 2023 at 11:59pm. 
  
Although internships range in subject matter and skill set, each position is designed to prepare all students for life after graduation. An additional component to the internship experience will be a ten-week workshop series to develop students’ career readiness. The weekly workshop will require in-person attendance on campus.

The Office  
Serving the campus community since 1916, Recreational Sports promotes physical fitness, healthy habits, and balanced behaviors through an array of recreation facilities, programs, services, special events, and student employment opportunities. Programs offered include Intramural Sports, Fitness/Wellness, Outdoor Recreation, Sport Clubs, Instructional, and Informal Recreation.
 
The Position 
TexFit Conference Project
  • Assist in with equipment inventory, purchasing
  • Assist with Sponsorship communication and needs
  • Assist in developing schedule and planning
  • Assist in planning pre conference event
  • Assist in schedule draft
  • Assist in coordinating committee team
  • Assist in recruitment of colleges in surrounding areas to attend

Get Started Program Project
  • Communicate with participants
  • Develop a hub/way to communicate with participants
  • Monitor the new hub of communication with participants and be able to respond to their fitness and wellness needs
  • Audit videos for Get started program
  • Work through ways to recruit participants in different audiences I.e. students, fac/staff, community members, etc.
  • Contribute ideas to improve upon the program to enhance the customer experience

Other duties
  • Assist in studio maintenance and checks
  • Attend TeXercise Classes
  • Learn about Recreational sports as a whole

Who You Are (Qualifications) 
These are preferred but not required:
  • Majoring in a Fitness or Wellness related field
  • Passion for Health and Wellness
  • Ideally has a certification in anything related too fitness and wellness but is not necessary
