Communications and Records Management Intern - Summer 2022

We are searching for a Communications and Records Management Intern to be a part of our Communications Department in the Summer of 2022 and learn all the "Magic Behind the Magic" work we do at Reedy Creek Improvement District! 

The Communications and Records Management Intern will be given the opportunity to gain experience in working for the government sector while making a positive impact. The Intern will be working and given exposure to the Communications Department, in which performs a variety of services to include public records management and requests, external and internal communications, branding and social media, and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. 

Position Summary:
The Communications and Records Management Intern will job shadow and perform duties to support the Communications Department, with a focus on the operations of public records management and gain a better understanding of day-to-day operations of a special taxing district.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist with day-to-day operations of records management and assist in keeping the volume of public record requests at a manageable level by working with the Public Records Administrator in record-keeping, organization, research, and providing customer service.
  • Review items that have been returned from record scanning for accuracy and quality to help assist in the District-wide scanning project.
  • Assist on gathering historical documents and researching and implementing scanning or other historical preservation methods.
  • Assist with diversity, equity, and inclusion committee activities such as researching for speakers and coordinating logistics for committee’s hosted lunch and learns.
  • Navigate different forms of social media to assist in promoting the District’s online presence and brands.
  • Attend and listen in on meetings of the Board of Supervisors or City meetings, and working with agendas and supportive documentation.
  • Become familiar with the department’s tasks and duties in all various areas.
  • Build working relationships with staff and contractors that support the department as needed.
  • Participation in organized intern events and program objectives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Competency:
  • Desire to learn about public records administration, communications, historical record-keeping methods, social media, and media relations and its day-to-day operations of how it supports our stakeholders within a public sector setting.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret and apply pertinent policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisor, District employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to take initiative and responsibility for tasks and projects assigned
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Work, Excel, PowerPoint)

Required Qualifications:
Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited institution for either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program, studying related majors such as: Communications, Media Relations, Political Science or Public Administration, and must have at least completed their first two semesters.
  • Be authorized to work in the U.S. and not require visa sponsorship.

Driving Requirements:
Must possess a valid Florida State Driver's license and maintain eligibility under the District's commercial vehicle program.

Physical Demands:
While engaging in the duties of this position the intern performs lifting and/or carrying of up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 10 lbs. frequently. Intern sits constantly. Intern stands and walks occasionally. Intern occasionally bends/stoops/crouches and pushes/pulls. Intern uses their hand(s)/arm(s) to reach in any direction and seize, grasp, hold and turn object using hand(s). Intern uses fingers, versus whole hand, to pick, pinch and feel objects. Intern sees, talk and hear as they communicate with others in person, electronically or by phone. Intern may operate motor vehicle(s) that involve the use of hand/foot controls.

Schedule requirements: 
Ability to work onsite during regular business hours (Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm) for no more than 20 hours per week.

The pay rate for this position is $13.50/hour.
