Potential camp counselors are solicited based on character, stability, interest in working with kids, warmth, personality, and ability in a specialty. The most important aspect of being a counselor is the relationships you help to develop with and among your campers. You and one other counselor will live in a bunk with seven or eight boys. Beyond relating to children, a camp counselor is hired to lead or assist in a particular activity. Each counselor is expected to implement a quality program (with guidance from veteran staff) in his or her area of expertise. To succeed, this requires knowledge, patience, creativity and enthusiasm. Each counselor spends the bulk of his or her time in the morning and in the afternoon at this activity. The atmosphere you create determines in large part the experience each boy has. We have two baseball fields for different age groups. The Junior field is smaller than a normal field and perfect for our younger campers. The Senior field is full size and lets the older campers adjust to playing on a regulation sized field. Next to this is our batting cage and pitching machine.
