Job Description:
Blackstone’s Legal & Compliance group offers Summer Analysts a hands-on experience supporting Blackstone’s various verticals. Summer Analysts play an integral role in the team and have the opportunity to be immersed within an in-house legal & compliance team of a leading financial services organization. This position is ideal for a candidate who is considering attending law school and/or business school in the future who would like to gain experience with regulatory compliance, the legal framework of private funds, and transactional law. This is a particularly attractive opportunity for those interested in law school as you will be trained and mentored by leading corporate attorneys with significant experience in the financial services space. Please note that this is a generalist role and candidates have the potential to be placed within a specific vertical for the summer program.

Responsibilities:
Blackstone’s Legal and Compliance team expects Summer Analysts to be engaged in all aspects of the group’s work. This may include:
  • Assisting the compliance team in the administration of and ongoing enhancements to all aspects of the team’s compliance program, including management of the compliance calendar and upkeep of the firm’s data management system
  • Providing support relative to offering of any new funds or products
  • Assessing current and prospective regulatory risk through industry and government-focused research
  • Assisting in preparing materials responsive to existing investors’ compliance-related requests
  • Assisting in launching new business initiatives
  • Supporting the firm’s compliance training initiatives (both online and in person)

In addition, each vertical below hones in on these supplemental responsibilities:
Credit:
  • Coordinating legal review and operational due diligence processes relating to credit investments made by Credit’s various funds
  • Maintaining and updating Credit’s policies and procedures, including drafting new processes to streamline compliance initiatives
  • Reviewing investments to confirm investor compliance
  • Collaborating with Credit Investment Management, Credit Finance, and Credit Investor Relations teams on interdisciplinary projects

BAAM:
  • Assisting from a legal perspective in the launch and ongoing operations of BAAM’s private commingled and customized funds and accounts, including significant coordination with BAAM internal business groups (accounting, operations, investor relations, portfolio management etc.) and external service providers
  • Assisting from a legal perspective with the investment by BAAM-managed funds and accounts into third party-managed private funds and accounts and coordination with BAAM internal business groups and external service providers regarding the same
  • Communicating on an ongoing basis with investment managers, external counsel, and various other counterparties
  • Assist with firm-wide conflicts clearance process and the drafting of investment-related non-disclosure agreements
  • Assisting with the creation and maintenance of various databases and processes in connection with BAAM’s investment funds and transactions

Real Estate:
  • Coordinating legal review and operational due diligence processes relating to real estate investments made by the Real Estate Group’s various funds
  • Maintaining and updating the Real Estate Group’s policies and procedures, including drafting new processes to streamline compliance initiatives
  • Reviewing investments pursued by the Real Estate group to ensure investor compliance
  • Collaborating with Real Estate Acquisitions, Real Estate Asset Management, Real Estate Finance, and Real Estate Investor Relations teams on interdisciplinary projects

Central:
  • Participating in the support of Blackstone’s Anti-Money Laundering (“AML”) compliance program
  • Assist in preparing metrics for new investors, high risk investors and foreign PEPs
  • Participating in the support of Blackstone’s Conflicts Clearance compliance program
  • Participating in the ongoing implementation and execution of Blackstone’s compliance and testing program, including:
  • Assessing key business processes and critical business risk and controls
  • Analyzing data and reviewing supporting documentation provided by the business
  • Documenting a written testing plan and compliance testing procedures
  • Executing testing of procedures and internal controls
  • Evaluating, documenting and presenting results of test work
  • Assisting in implementing remedial projects and processes following testing observations
  • Assisting in other related compliance and regulatory matters
  • Working with Blackstone compliance regarding firm wide compliance projects and special compliance/internal audit – related projects as necessary
  • Assisting with due diligence and analysis of alternative data sets, including by attending diligence meetings, conducting research and contract review, and implementing compliance processes relating to alternative data sets
  • Assisting with privacy compliance assessments of Blackstone business units, portfolio companies or third-party vendors, compiling privacy reporting, and assisting with regulatory filings
  • Assisting with research and policy reviews and updates in the fields of data protection, privacy and information risk management
  • Participating in the review of marketing materials for Blackstone funds and other products, as well as other communications made to Blackstone clients
  • Develop a greater understanding of the relevant rules and regulations with respect to fund marketing materials sent to prospective investors as well as other types of externally circulated materials.

Qualifications:
Blackstone Central Compliance seeks to hire individuals who are detail-oriented, process-driven, and have a genuine desire to learn and grow in a team-based setting. Prior internship or work experience in the financial services industry or legal industry is preferred.
