The position of Scripps Staff Scientist is an advanced-level position. The position requires the individual to perform many non-routine scientific procedures and a great deal of thought planning to resolve complex problems as they arise. It is necessary for the individual to exercise judgement in developing methods, techniques and evaluating criteria to obtain results. 

The individual is required to perform complex and novel assignments requiring development of novel or improved techniques and procedures. Needs to have the ability to trouble shoot proficiency to advanced scientific goals. Must have knowledge and the ability to compile comprehensive reports of assigned projects and present them to the team for discussion. Furthermore, co-authoring peer reviewed publications and aiding in the grant writing. The individual will work directly under the guidance of the PI with minimal supervision.

The individual will broadly work to supervise the day-to-day operations and mentor lab personnel including students, technicians, and advanced degree holders. This includes training personnel on novel techniques, aiding in progress reports/presentations and technical advice on experimental design, data collection and analysis.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·        Carry out experiments at the bench.
·        Analyze data.
·        Prepare reports and publications on a computer.
·        Prepare sections of grant proposals on a computer.

EXPECTED SALARY:

Commensurate with experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A doctorate degree in an appropriate scientific discipline required. A minimum of 2 years postdoctoral experience.
