Government Affairs Intern

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose
Support the Government Affairs Office in activities including research, public policy projects and communications.

Length of Service (Hybrid) January – June 2023
Varied – 3-5 days weekly – maximum 40 hours per week. Pay rate $16.10 per hour.

Job Functions
May include, but not limited to:
- Research current events and work on various projects as necessary to assist with deadline driven assignments
- Assist staff with legislative, regulatory and consumer group issues, attend legislative hearings, provide hearing coverage with follow-up report writing
- Provide Internet searches and other research on organizations, issues, trends, case studies, federal legislative and political agendas, public policy issues and regional events
- Front desk coverage, greet guests, answer phones, respond to customer inquiries, retrieve, and open mail, assist with reports, prepare word documents and spreadsheets, filing, faxing, photocopying, backup office coverage, assist in accounting related matters

Qualifications/Skill Sets
Required:
- Professional demeanor / superior business etiquette
- Communication skills – must have excellent written and oral skills (will have interaction with business leaders and other professionals)
- Research skills – including use of Internet
- Solid organizational skills
- Good time management
- Ability to multi-task
- Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint (required); Outlook (desired)

Optional skills:
- Political and / or public policy knowledge experience
- Previous office / corporate experience
- Editing
- Phone experience / member relations

Educational Requirements
- Must be a current student in good standing
- Concentrations of study may include political science, social science, business, communications, or a related study
- Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0
