This technical position supports a research laboratory, and it will require regular usage of existing procedures for the experimental use of small animal models of disease, tissue culture, flow cytometry, cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, microscopy and histology. The successful candidate will be detail oriented, self-motivated, a fast learner and possess excellent time management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills. The ability to take direction and use independent judgment to meet multiple deadlines is required. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Willingness to perform BSL-2 work upon completion of required training is required.
The primary responsibilities of this individual include but are not limited to:
1. Mouse colony maintenance: Weaning of mice, DNA isolation and genotyping by PCR, updating Google doc information on available mice.
2. General lab maintenance, including regular inspection and upkeep of laboratory equipment and reagents, the ordering of mice and supplies, the maintenance of laboratory material stocks in digital inventory formats, the preparation of ‘lab-stock’ reagents, and updating all BSL-2 laboratory protocols, as well as assisting of all lab personnel to ensure adherence to laboratory safety protocols/standards.
3. Performing and assisting post-doctoral associates and graduate students in experimental research studies, including the isolation of mouse and human cell immune cells from tissues, tissue culture and flow cytometric analysis of immune cells. Data records must be kept legible and informative such that experimental procedures are reproducible.
A Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or a related field is required, with 1-3 years of relevant work experience in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology or biochemistry or a related life science field. Laboratory experience with an emphasis on the use of animal models for biomedical research, flow cytometry, cell culture and molecular biology is strongly preferred.
Position requires successful completion of required training courses (i.e. animal use, BSL-2 safety, general lab and chemical safety training). Must be able to work independently, as well as in a team environment, close attention to detail, adhere to deadlines regularly. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to experimental goals are essential. Must have competent computer skills (MS Office, including Excel, use of email required.

COMPENSATION: The expected hiring range for this position is $20.07 to $25.06 per hour, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
