NY Sun Works Outreach Intern

Internship opportunity with NY Sun Works: This paid internship is funded by the Cultural Engagement Internships program and is only available to students at Fordham College at Lincoln Center and Fordham College at Rose Hill.



NY Sun Works Outreach Intern


12 hrs per week
Start Date: Week of Jan. 23, 2023
End Date: May 12, 2023
Format: Hybrid 

NY Sun Works is a non-profit organization that builds innovative science labs in NYC public schools. Through our Greenhouse Project Initiative we use hydroponic farming technology to educate students and teachers about the science of sustainability. We envision a generation of environmental innovators empowered to create solutions to global resource challenges.
NY Sun Works is seeking an Outreach Intern to do background research to update list of elected officials and their new districts to facilitate outreach to city council members, state officials and U.S. Congress Members. Intern will determine public schools located in new districts, research legislative priorities of different members and help plan outreach strategy. Intern will also work to develop a list of NYC corporations for potential funding requests. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, flexible, professional, and capable of managing their work load and prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced non-profit environment.



Outreach Intern Job Responsibilities:


Intern will work closely with the Program Development team to define project goals and plan project execution on the following:
Update NYC schools list to reflect districting changes recently enacted at the city, state and federal level.
  • Conduct research on local and state elected officials, including interests and legislative priorities, to help prioritize political strategy
  • Work with Program Development team to create report outlining political strategy
  • Research opportunities for funding at the NY State level
  • Work closely with Program Development team to develop materials for elected officials outreach
  • Identify corporations who have corporate giving opportunities and their giving priorities
  • Work closely with Program Development team to create report on potential corporate giving strategy
  • Work closely with Program Development team to develop materials for corporate giving outreach



Working Hours:

Offices are located in the Lincoln Center neighborhood. Work can be a combination of in-person and remote. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a fast-growing, mission-driven organization, joining a group of fun and dedicated colleagues. Office hours are 9:30 - 5:30. Will require use of personal laptop and access to the Internet.



Qualifications/Skills:

  • Basic familiarity with NYC, NYS and city government 
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.)
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently
  • Comfortable with multitasking in a deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic internet research skills
