Polar Institute Staff Assistant Internship

Internship Description
Internships with the Polar Institute are designed to provide the opportunity for practical experience in an environment that successfully combines scholarship with public policy. Interns will gain valuable experience in various projects including conference and event organization, publication research and preparation, academic research, and administrative assignments in support of both Polar Institute and Wilson Center activities. Interns are also encouraged to pursue independent research projects pertinent to the program's objectives. 
Interns assist with all aspects of the Polar Initiative's day-to-day operations and programming. Sample duties may include:
  • editing and proofreading written material
  • providing ancillary research for publications
  • identifying potential speakers and participants for events
  • assisting staff with preparation for events
  • other administrative duties as assigned
Eligibility Requirements
Successful applicants should have strong research and administrative skills; be detail-oriented, able to work independently, and able to work collaboratively; and, be currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate degree program, accepted to enter an advanced degree program, or a recent graduate. Strong writing and analytical skills are essential. Prior experience in Arctic issues and a desire to engage and immerse oneself in the program's material are beneficial.
This internship requires a commitment of at least 20 hours per week and is paid ($16.12/hour).
