Innovation Academy Fellow

About the Innovation Fellowship Program:
The Jefferson County Innovation Fellowship is a one-year program that equips aspiring innovators with the skills to transform government services through new technologies and solutions. It is a full-time role with a salary and limited medical benefits that can act as a launch pad for a career in civic innovation and technology. Target Hiring Range: $28-$32 USD Hourly

About the Position
We are searching for a Fellow to lead the operations of our Innovation Academy. The Fellow will teach employees how to analyze existing business processes, generate new ideas, implement new solutions, and use data to measure the impact of changes.
The position will report directly to the Innovation Programs and Emerging Technologies Manager. The successful candidate will have great interpersonal and facilitation skills, a knack for data analysis and technology, and a desire to facilitate change in government!

Specifically, the Fellow should expect to:

  • Manage and grow our Innovation Academy which currently includes the following programs: Process Improvement, Idea Generation, Problem-Solving, and Human-Centered Design
  • Facilitate trainings and workshops for employees
  • Provide tools, resources, and platforms to support employee innovation
  • Coach academy alumni on their innovations by helping them manage change and use metrics to demonstrate the effectiveness of their ideas
  • Apply behavioral insights to improve public programs and policies
  • Partner with county staff on the continuous improvement journey
  • Continuously seek new ways to improve the way our Innovation Academy operates
  • Organize events to celebrate employee-led innovation
  • Enhance the Innovation Team’s brand through online engagement and communications

Professional Development
The Jefferson County Innovation Fellowship program is designed to provide talented individuals with an opportunity to gain practical and diverse real-world experience in government innovation. Fellows learn about the inner workings of county government and make a difference in the community through meaningful projects. Fellows will interact with senior leaders, attend high level meetings, and will be exposed to the responsibilities and challenges of multiple departments.

Additionally, Fellows can expect:

  • a stipend for job-related trainings, conferences, or certifications
  • support from the County if pursuing academic credit
  • mentorship and coaching
  • expert led educational discussions
  • training on process and technology improvement tools and techniques

The Innovation Team is housed within the Business Innovation & Technology department. Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management, or related
  • Interest in facilitating groups and delivering training
  • Proficient with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Certification in process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six-Sigma or experience with these methodologies
  • At least 1 year of professional-level work experience in supporting process improvement projects
