Systems Engineer

Job Responsibilities
Tri-County Technical College invites applicants to the role of Systems Engineer. Reporting to the Director of IT Operations and Information Security, the Engineer will be responsible for engineering systems to support College business, instruction, and IT operations. The successful candidate will possess the ability to design, configure, implement, and manage projects and systems; knowledge of systems, data, and network security designs; ability to analyze data, research requirements, and implement solutions; ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at one time; ability to create documentation for technical and non-technical users; and possess effective oral and written communication skills.
 
Job Duties Include (but are not limited to):
 
Research and design hardware and applications to support college business, instruction, and IT operations. Evaluate systems requests to determine feasibility in relation to time, cost and College policies and IT standards. Meet and consult with various levels of administration and staff for systems planning in order to analyze business cases, investigate problems, and determine any opportunities for improvement through the integration of technology. Define project scope, constraints, perform fact-finding, observe operations, analyze cost, determine scheduling, evaluate the technical feasibility, and report the results to stakeholders and management. Determine Application, System, Security and hardware specifications and requirements based on research and analysis. Research, design, select and modify system solutions according to specifications or research, design, and develop systems solutions that best meets the need of systems requests. Create system implementation plans and execute with project management best practices and effective communication. Set up ongoing system support, maintenance, and security evaluations.
 
Configure, in alignment with college and IT policies, all on-premise and cloud enterprise server systems and applications as well as data center and disaster recovery hardware systems, which include but are not limited to storage arrays, data center switches, blade servers, backup tape libraries, load balancers, and various system appliances. Configurations should take into account system inter-dependencies and integrations and follow change management procedures. Provide maintenance for all on-premise and cloud enterprise system applications as well as data center and disaster recovery hardware including equipment upgrades, firmware upgrades, replacements, and emergency response repair. Proactively monitor for system security threats and vulnerabilities and take action to mitigate the risk of a breach in accordance with State, College, and IT Policies. Ensure backups are up to date according to defined retention policies. Insure replication from the Data Center to the Disaster recovery site is maintained and monitored. Insure disaster recovery plans are up to date and well documented. Perform and monitor daily server backups and off-site tape rotations.
 
Use the Service Desk ticketing system to work assigned incident and service request tickets and respond according to the defined priority service level agreement. Troubleshoot, diagnose, resolve issues and follow up with customers, providing feedback and seeing problems through to resolution. Document systems incidents and create change requests for any production system or application changes. Assist in daily monitoring of production systems and analyze monitoring and ticketing data trends to proactively respond. Maintain system configuration documentation and knowledge base articles with accurate and up-to-date information relating to current IT policies and procedures.
 
Assist in research to help develop long-range plans for systems infrastructure, application expansion, integration, capacity, and performance. Define current and predict future licensing requirements for hardware and applications. Provide training for applications that have been implemented. 
 
Performs other duties as assigned. 

Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and experience in computer system development and modification in either an on-premises, cloud-based, or hybrid environment. Relevant experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
