Student Intern (Intelligence)

You will serve as a Student Intern (Intelligence) at GG-04 or GG-07 grade level receiving on-the-job training pertaining to work in the field of intelligence by observing, learning, and applying various standardized intelligence support rules, procedures, and/or operations.

Duties
  • You will provide support for work products relating to the analysis, production, or dissemination of intelligence documents.
  • You will research various intelligence topics and issues.
  • You will assist in the preparation and presentation of data relative to intelligence matters.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You must obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance and access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI). Failure to do so may result in the withdrawal of an offer or removal. Indicate the level and date of your clearance in your resume.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You must acknowledge in writing that you are accepting an appointment in the DCIPS (excepted service) which does not confer competitive status, prior to appointment.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

  • This position may require a polygraph examination.
  • Must be accepted for enrollment or enrolled in school.
  • Students must possess a 2.5 GPA or higher by December 30, 2024.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the GG-04, you must meet the following required education level: Completion of 1 academic year (30 credits) of post-high school study or have an Associate's degree.

To be eligible for the GG-07, you must meet the following required education level: Completion of 1 academic year of graduate level education, or do you have a bachelor's degree or have completed 5 academic years of pre-professional study.

All educational requirements for this position must be met by December 30, 2024.

Qualifying Education
1) A high school whose curriculum has been approved by a State or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum that has been approved by such body or state.

AND

2) Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education:
  • (i) A 2-year or 4-year college or university;
  • (ii) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school)
  • (iii) A home-school curriculum
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements, if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. Applications will be accepted from students who expect to complete qualifying education by December 30, 2024.. However, agencies are required to verify that the education has been completed successfully before any applicant can be appointed (report to work); therefore, your selection or start date may be impacted by proof and completion of all position requirements.

Students will typically work a full-time schedule (40 hours per week) and will have to commit to working a 160-320 hours during the summer months.

You may be noncompetitively converted to a permanent career-conditional or career appointment under specific conditions outlined in the qualifications section of this announcement.

Appointment may be extended for 1 year if student maintains enrollment.
