Exhibits Preparator-graphic design focus

Job Description Summary

The purpose of this position, under general supervision of the Exhibits Manager, is to fulfill CHM strategic objectives through participation in the planning, design, production, installation, and maintenance of exhibitions and services facilitating CHM programs and events.

JOB DUTIES
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Produces graphic signage using various techniques and materials such as paint, vinyl, metal, wood, acrylics, and display boards.

Assists in gallery preparation including, but not limited to: spackling, sanding, and painting of gallery and mobile walls, cases and risers; loading, transporting, and arranging gallery furniture, specimens, and artifacts; mounting artworks or other exhibition components; installing graphic signage and labels; monitoring condition of exhibition components and lighting; and repairs, replaces, or rearranging exhibition components as required.

Produces representation-style painting and illustrations for natural history models, history reproductions, promotional and exhibition murals, signage, and printed materials.

Fabricates exhibit components and object supports using various methods and materials including clay, plaster, foam, rubber, wood, acrylics, resins, and fiberglass.

Produces and installs decorative components, signage, and lighting for CHM events and programs, and assists with event set-up, activities, and clean-up as required.

Maintains and services tools and equipment, organizes contents, and disposes of waste materials in the workshop.

Shift:8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Days:Mon., Tue., Wed., Thu., Fri.

Details:Grade 8/Salary Range: $16.12 - $22.57. Salary is dependent on education and experience. Seeking candidate proficient in Adobe Creative Suite software to produce exhibit signage and graphics in addition to other listed preparator skills. Candidates may be asked to provide portfolio of past work.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of Bachelor's degree. Requires three years of experience.
