English-Speaking Academic Advisor (History Track)

Thinktown America, the US-based division of Thinktown Education, is seeking a motivated English-Speaking Academic Advisor (History Track) to work full-time. We are currently working remotely and will be keeping a fully remote/hybrid working mode for the foreseeable future.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
Academic Competitions, Research, and Instruction:
● Provide information on various history subject competitions and event consultation
● Plan competition schedules, recommend relevant history competitions, and guide students based on students’ capabilities in accordance with academic integrity. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
o Helping develop successful research questions
o Demonstrating scientific methods in historical research
o Assisting in finding access to valuable sources
o Offering courses on academic writing
o Conducting brainstorming sessions and writing outlines
o Providing feedback on essay drafts
● Recommend appropriate history summer programs for students and facilitates the application process 
● Assist in making appropriate travel arrangements and communicates with families regarding competitions or other events in a timely manner
● Participate in the planning, organization, and implementation of academic activities such as history-based workshops and personalized lessons.
● Carry out academic research and develop relevant teaching materials, such as competition research and compilation of previous competition winners, in accordance with the overall design and vision of a specific product.
● Provide customized advising services to clients looking for personalized support in improving their academic writing and analysis skills within the subject of history.

Client Consultation:
● Assess clients' writing samples and provide detailed assessment and diagnosis reports based on them.
● Provide clients with personalized academic guidance and planning based on their language abilities, college planning, career goals, intended major, personal interests and experiences, etc.
● Recommend and introduce suitable academic history programs and activities to help clients improve their reading, writing, and analytical abilities.
● Provide professional advice and counseling for clients' personalized academic history projects and other history subject-related tasks.

Collaborative Product Development:
● Assist in the research of target markets and client needs, such as academic history competitions across the United States and/or globally calling for submissions from young scholars.
● Assist in maintaining and optimizing the history team’s standardized operating procedures and content.
● Collect and analyze feedback from internal users and maintain detailed student profiles on a regular basis.
● Assist in creating marketing content and help promote products and events both internally and externally.
● Collaborate on internal product testing based on the history teams’ existing product lines, product content, and standardized operating procedures.

Subject Team Building: 
● Participate in weekly team meetings and report to the team leader and project manager on a regular basis.
● Assist in the onboarding and training of new members on the writing teams.
● Help with projects upon request from the China-based history team, business product managers, and other advisors.

Basic Qualifications:
● A minimum of a Master’s degree in history or related fields
● A fast learner and a problem solver 
● Basic knowledge of or the willingness to learn project management and strategy 
● Experience with or interest in working with a multicultural teams spread out across various time zones 
● Strong organizational and analytical skills, and can work multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment 
● Exceptional communication skills and social awareness 
● You don't need your hand held as you work — you're self-motivated, well organized, and you have the analytical skills that allow you to make difficult decisions thoughtfully 
● You love to collaborate and don't view any task as "too small" 
● You take pride in what you do 

Preferred Qualifications:
● Previous experience as a teacher or tutor
● Personal experience with history competitions and events

Thinktown’s Multi-Role System: Overview
As an Academic Advisor, you will focus on a particular track as indicated in the job posting title, at the same time, you will also act as one or more of these 11 roles as described below, according to personal conditions and company needs. 
1.ES: Edit application essays and school academic essays with students
2.BS: Brainstorm application essays and school academic essays with students
3.Sales: Research and prepare materials for sales pitches to students and their parents, provide students and their parents with consultancy session and sell Thinktown products
4.Tutor: Conduct lectures and training sessions either online or in person
5.Supervisor: Course arrangement and follow-up
6.Consulting Associate of Education (CAE): Provide high level college application and career planning counseling to students which includes: (1) School and major selection, daily communication and follow-up with students and parents, phased application material collection and collation (2) Course selection guidance (3) English-test planning and counseling (4) Academic competition planning and counseling (5) Extracurricular activities design, planning and follow up
7.Curriculum Practice Specialist (CPS): Provide high and middle level college application and career planning counseling to students which includes: (1) School and major selection, daily communication and follow-up with students and parents, phased application material collection and collation, application status follow-up, application tables fill-in, visa guidance (2) Course selection guidance (3) English-test planning and counseling, English-writing tutoring, mock interview (4) Academic competition planning and counseling (5) Extracurricular activities design, planning and follow up (6) Information research, students’ information collection and collation
8. Academic Advisor: Supervise in advising subject related products, provide educational guidance and assistance for students by planning schedules, recommending courses, and determining personalized education solutions, assists students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, academic research and academic writing, provides subject competition and event consultation.
9.Business Product Manager (BPM): Support one or part of an educational product, which may involve conducting market research, writing product handbook, coordinating strategies, monitoring project progress and collecting regular product feedback
10.Global Event Coordinator: Help coordinate both internal and external events; Support building and adhering to an event budget to avoid project overruns; Coordinate and maintain external relationships with students, parents, and event partners
11.Content Production Associate: Co-manage Thinktown’s media accounts and platforms (WeChat, Facebook, Official website) and optimize content, plan and write for account articles especially for WeChat; Design marketing content for our main products

Thinktown’s Multi-Role System: Example
If Employee A is an Academic Advisor, 80% of their work time will be spent on their main advising responsibilities. However, as A is also interested in BS and ES work, Employee A will also brainstorm with students and edit essays with students for the remaining 20% of their work time.
