Job Responsibilities:

The Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking a biostatistician/developer with experience in geospatial analysis to work on the National Wastewater Surveillance System team under the supervision of the One Health Medical Epidemiologist. The person will perform statistical studies to generate data and insights used to innovate, plan and support improved data driven COVID-19 response efforts as it pertains to the National Wastewater Surveillance System. They will develop analytic platforms to assist epidemiologists and prepare analysis plans to ensure the best statistical methods are developed and utilized. They will utilize geospatial analysis software such as GIS to analyze COVID-19 case data in comparison with geospatial data available for wastewater catchment. They will interpret, analyze, and prepares data for reports and presentations based on stakeholder needs. They will interface with non technical users to assist with data interpretation and understanding of results. Proficiency with statistical computer applications such as SAS, R, and mapping tools is preferred.

The Biostatician will be responsible for:

  • Collect data, perform data analysis, and produce weekly data summaries of findings using large data sets.
  • Work with academic partner to provide data and support various analyses pertaining to COVID-19.
  • Provide technical assistance to and develop analytic platforms to support COVID-19 Epidemiologists.
  • Respond to data requests. 
  • Disseminate analyzed data to stakeholders. 
  • Innovate ways to improve data quality, ease of access, analysis, and sharing.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with coursework in Computer Science or Management Information Systems AND at least two years job related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • SAS Experience
  • Experience with other data analysis software, including R, GIS, JMP, and/or Tableau
  • Previous Experience working performing public health surveillance
  • Experience working with large dataset
  • Experience with data matching
  • Strong communication skills, including experience communicating data findings to diverse stakeholder
