Post Bachelors Research Associate - Mechanical Engineer

Overview

At a time when complex environmental problems are emerging on every front, the Nuclear Sciences Division's staff, capabilities, and facilities are delivering science and technology innovations for the environment, as well as for energy and national security needs. Our diverse work addresses a wide range of national and international challenges, from providing solutions that protect the health of people who must work in hazardous environments, to developing durable new materials, streamlining industrial processes for improved productivity and effectiveness, and delivering new approaches for environmental cleanup. Nuclear Sciences Division capabilities and efforts are focused in three key areas including Environmental Health and Remediation, Nuclear Regulatory, and Nuclear Energy.

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:
  • Provide component and system design for prototype fabrication and testing to solve fluid, thermal, chemical processing, and mechanical problems relevant to energy systems, nuclear waste processing, and security
  • Design and implement engineering experiments including aspects of instrumentation, controls, and data collection
  • Participate on an interdisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions for diverse industry and government clients
  • Contribute to technical products, such as journal articles and technical reports

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Candidates must have received a Bachelor’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. 
  • Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in additive manufacturing (such as filament and resin 3D printing)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with SolidWorks or other drafting software
  • Experience with microprocessors (Arduino/Raspberry Pi/Labjack)
  • Experience with Matlab and/or programmable logic controllers

Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment

Work in research laboratories will be required.

Additional Information

Due to business needs and client space, US Citizenship is required.
